The CNC Machine Programmer Operator plans, programs, and sets up and operates our CNC and manual milling and turning equipment. The principal expectation is to plan, CNC program and set up a large five axis 40Hp-20,000rpm mill with 182” x 184” x 50” travel to produce aerospace related hardware. The machine has a 31i Fanuc control. This person will work directly with the assembly personnel and design engineers to improve the machining processes and improve the product quality as it relates to downstream requirements. This position is responsible and accountable for achieving the quality objectives of the product and achieving the cost and delivery targets. This person will recommend methods and expenditures to improve the processes and be responsible for training other personnel to work with machinery. This position involves the procurement, assembly, testing, and shipping processes of a low volume, high technology, high variation product mix produced in a project driven build-to-order production working environment.
Key Responsibilities:  Focus on CNC programming of 3, 4, and 5 axis parts utilizing Mastercam CAD/CAM software.  Setup and operate manual and CNC cutting machines.  Understand and operate FANUC 31i control.  Fixture design including vacuum fixtures to support the machining of a variety of parts.  Manage the care and support of the machine tools, cutting tools, quality equipment, lubrication, and preventive maintenance for the department.  Lead design discussions to improve the quality and manufacturability of the product design.  Communicate clearly with production planners the status of work orders i.e. CNC program, fixture, tooling, material, etc.  Monitor material and supply inventories through computer information systems and physical methods.  Utilize quality tools including a FARO ARM and Laser Tracker to measure parts.  Recognize and solve problems affecting production including quality, cost, schedules, staff, and order of production line. Background and Skill Requirements:  Manufacturing Technology Degree  5+ years of machining experience on multi-axis CNC mills  Demonstrated experience in machine tool programming preferably utilizing Mastercam.  CAD experience, Solidworks preferred.  Six Sigma and Lean experience is desirable.  Believes in the continuous improvement philosophy
