DESCRIPTION: The CNC Programmer will work with the Design Team to manufacture creative, high-quality surgical tools and implants, and to fabricate test and measurement jigs and fixtures. The employee will autonomously create CAM programs for CNC machining equipment, set up machine tools, fixture workpieces, operate machines, and measure work results to ensure it is within specified dimensions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with the Design Team/ Engineers to evaluate design for manufacturability, drawing GD&T and inspection methods for surgical instruments, implants, and test fixture designs.
Should be able to direct in the design of fixtures, tool purchases, or other materials to fully implement a working program.
Create programs to run multi-axis CNC mills and swiss screw machines using CAM software
Set up and operate CNC and conventional machine tools used for high precision milling, turning, and grinding operations of stainless steel, titanium, super-alloy, and various plastic materials.
Adjust machine feed and speed, change cutting tools, or adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if machines malfunction.
Modify cutting programs to account for problems encountered during operation and save modified programs.
Prioritize and coordinate work flow through the prototype machine shop.
Record all activities in a timely manner on the job tracking system.
Revise existing CNC programs to reduce machining time, extend tool life, create overall process efficiency.
Use precision measuring equipment to verify machined parts meet specified dimensional requirements and tolerances.
Oversee the selection and procurement of necessary materials and tools to support shop functions.
Maintain 5S/housekeeping standards within work area.
Provides basic machining and metalworking training and mentorship to less skilled employees.
Provide time and cost estimates as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:

5+ years experience as machinist of precision components
2+ years experience programming CNC machines
Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Experience using precise measuring equipment to verify parts are within tolerance
Basic computer skills including e-mail, and internet usage
